YAYYYYYYY I am loosing by TTT virginity and it's about bloody time to! Okay, so I always want to take part in this weekly meme and I never do because I am lazy and such and well, more than a little bit of a flake. BUT this morning I was stalking all my favourite blogs and was like omgggggggg WHAT! All these people were like ME when they were kids! y'know the kid who actually loved going to the library and wasn't just dragged there. So in no particular order here are the books that I loved as a kid!
Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone
God bless the librarian who handed me this book on a wet and rainy British summer afternoon. I was 12 years old and I was in love. I can remember so much of that day it's insane. Considering that I can't even remember what i did yesterday.
Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry
OMG. This book. THIS BOOK. I think this was the book that first made me aware of how lucky I was not to have to deal with prejudice and injustice. It completely opened my eyes.
The BFG
AHHHH, I wanted to be and still want to be Sophie. I want to wake up in my nightie and go with the giant to giant land! to eat snozzcumbers! and catch dreams!
Northern Lights
I can remember my first English teacher telling me to read this because I would stare obsessively at the poster of the book cover on her classroom wall. So she loaned me her copy and well, the rest as they say, is history.
The Hobbit
And so my love affair with fantasy begins. Shortly after I finished this, I was devouring the Lord of the Rings books. Yes, before the movies. I am so fucking cool.
Black Beauty
Firstly, this title has my surname and I have always been obsessed with seeing some part of my name in a book. And it had a horse. Enough said.
Goosebumps ALL THE GOOSEBUMPS
I was a goosebumps crack whore. I wanted them all and I wanted them RIGHT NOW DAMMIT.
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe
Oh Narnia. ILY.
Charlotte's Web
This book destroyed me. Like, I can't handle the truth.
The Secret Garden
Mary and Colin are my favourite. The fact that this had a secret garden WAS THE BEST THING EVER.
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe
Oh Narnia. ILY.
Charlotte's Web
This book destroyed me. Like, I can't handle the truth.

Goosebumps HOLLA! I see so many books on here that I was going to put on my list but then left off, because we can only have 10. And holy crap I loved Roll Of Thunder Here My Cry as a kid and read all the other books in that series, and I totally thought I would hate it, but didn't. Love when that happens.
ReplyDeleteAnd Charlotte's Web, that book. So hard to handle.
I love that you have a Roald Dahl book on hurrrr! I had the Witches on mine, but LOVED the BFG too. Dahl foreva!
Awesome list!!! I loved the BFG. There are so many books that got missed off my list. I read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings way before the movies too.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten is here if you'd like a look :)
Such a great list!! Although it's clear that you are more than a little younger than me. *sad face* Harry Potter...I WISH I could put those books on my list. Alas, I was no longer a child, like not really even close, when the first one came out in my senior year of high school. But Charlotte's Web...that's a slayer, and I remember Goosebumps clearly but decided to put Christopher Pike on my list instead. I was a Christopher Pike SLUT.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices - we share a few!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Top Ten Tuesday post. :)
I LOVE YOUR LIST. It's amazing how many books you listed that I just went like "OMG, I loved that book too, that's so awesome!" - everything from The Secret Garden, to Charlotte's Web, to BFG, to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteYay for losing your TTT virginity, by the way! That's awesome :)
YAY HP! YAY GOOSEBUMPS! YAY THE HOBBIT! Loved all of these books. Well, unfortunately my childhood was obvs SEVERELY lacking, considering I didn't start HP until this year. But whatever, it makes me feel like a kid.
ReplyDeletetotally agree with you on charlotte's web. EB WHITE MAKES ME CRY.
ReplyDeleteand i can't believe i've never read Northern Lights.
love your list
I have actually not read Charlotte's Web, but I see it's on a lot of lists today..:) I loved Goosebumps even if they scared me way too much!:P
ReplyDeleteeverything on your list is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteMy brother was a huge Goosebumps reader in primary school - probably high school too! - but I never read any.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte's Web - same here! Devastated when Charlotte dies.
It's terrible but I can't remember if I ever read Black Beauty or The Secret Garden (saw lots of adaptations though so I feel like I have!), but I got copies a few years ago so I can read them and if it turns out I realise I had read them before, it won't matter!
Y'know, the first Narnia book I read was The Secret Chair because my best friend gave it to me for my birthday in primary school. I've no idea when I read the rest of the series but I did love them.
Here's my list.
I am a hobbit girl
ReplyDelete(that is to say I loved the book when I was a young thing - I had it on VINYL!!)
I am crying laughing right now because I just remembered my friends and I coming up with what "BFG" stood for... and it wasn't appropriate language for our 10-year-old-selves lol. I completely agree with you about Charlott'es Web and Goosebumps... do I smell a nostalgia readathon in the future?!
ReplyDeletewow! these are all my favorites except for goosebumps which I haven't read. I miss the time reading all those books.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte's Web would be on my list too!
ReplyDeleteI'm not British (or American), so while reading all of this week's TTT I felt a bit disconnected... but not much! I've been catching up on all of these wonderful books ever since my English was up for it.
ReplyDeleteThe Secret Garden is my favorite children's classic, followed by The Railway Children.
