Sooooooooooooooooo, some of you may have seen my tweet like a day or so ago. The tweet that diddled a little bit like this -
*cries* The Crooked Shelf coming to an internet near you until the end of 2011. It's been an amazing two years.
And then my twitter EXPLODED. Because 1. all my followers are extremely awesome and 2. I haven't really talked about this much expect with a few close blogging besties.
YOU GUYS! I just want to say that every single tweet that was sent was read with a big grin on my face and seriously, I don't think I realised just how many people actually care about this little corner of the universe. I have always thought that my blog was virtually unknown because I don't hardcore sell it, I don't tweet my reviews every.five.minutes, I'm still relatively lazy and flaky at all this stuff AND even after all this time, it all seems so new to me.
To set the record straight, I am not deleting my blog. Heck no. Do you know how much time (THIRTY MONTHS PEOPLE THIRTY FRICKIN MONTHS) and effort and love and sweat has gone into these posts on this here blog? A LOT. I just don't have the time to dedicate myself on a full time basis. So fear not. Even though I am requesting to be taken off mailing lists and stuff, I think I have been doing this thing, this sharing my feelings about books for WAY TOO LONG to go cold turkey. Fuck that shit. So yes, I will still be reviewing, just more sporadically and maybe on my tumblr, maybe someplace else *whistles* I like LOTS of other things, like travelling and music and fashion and writing and whatnot, so I feel like I am just shoving myself in the "book box" so to speak, and I want to explore these other things, I want to be a multi-functioning eclectic blog of all these different things on a part time lazy basis. Basically me and this blog are going to be "Friends With Benefits" y'know? no strings attached, here when I need a good time and to let some steam off?. So even though my blog won't be reviewing books all the time, I will still be on the internets in some shape or form, I just don't know which one yet. I'm going to think about this over xmas break and see how I feel.
I can honestly say hands down, this past two and a half years has been completely magical. I have loved every minute of it. From the friendships I have made that will outlast this blog for sure, to the relationships I have built with publishing houses I have admired for years. To the authors who have brought me words in pages and changed my life. To every email I have received from bloggers whether it be for advice (hahaha still makes me chuckle) or just a simple hello, nice to meet you kind lady. I will not forget it.
So thank you. Each and every one of you for making this hobby of mine into two years of amazing memories. I appreciate the time and effort it takes to leave a comment on a post, so thank you. Thank you to the amazing publishers who have gifted me with some extraordinary review copies and invited me to some kick ass events. Thank you to the authors who have contacted me to offer me a book to review - you know who you are and I hope you realise how much you getting in touch with me has meant. Thank you to the authors who have laughed at my reviews and really got my enthusiasm for the written word. I can't quite express how amazing this has all been to me.
Lastly, my interwebs best friends - I'm not naming you because if you don't know who you are by now then you need a slap round yo face. I love you. thank you for being my friend. your friendship, advice and support and laughter make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
This isn't goodbye, this is a see you soon.

Holy crap, two years has flown by!! Wow! I just want to say I'm totally excited about your new adventure! I'm so glad you're keeping your blog too. I'm looking forward to hearing how writing is going and how you're doing. Big Old MM HUGS!!!
ReplyDeleteI must have been offline when you tweeted about this because I'm completely clueless. Aww it makes me sad that you won't be blogging as much as you have been the past years but I'm glad you're not going to completely stop. I'll still see you on Twitter and Tumblr, right? :) I really admire how each and every post on your blog has so much enthusiasm and personality, I'm going to miss all of that!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you are still sticking around. Seriously it (blogging) would not be the same without you. You are such a fabulous person and I feel so blessed to have met you and spend time with you!
ReplyDeleteDo what makes you happy, girl! We'll be here for you no matter what!
I luv you!
I had an inkling, given the conversation with you and Pam that one day.
ReplyDeleteI'm psyched that you will stay because seriously the blogosphere needs LESS PRUDES and more SEXYTIMES PANTSMELT YAYYY OFACE!
Also, I am psyched about the fashion postings because I am a moron about clothes and it will be nice to see what some I consider cool considers cool for clothes.
And okay, Carla you are right at the tip top of my favorite blogs, on the same level as FYA, Angieville, Book Smugglers, etc. So it makes my motherloving day that you are not totally deleting, even if it is going to be more laid back.
I'm pretty sure I'm an internet bestie, or hope that I am given the wonderful bitch sessions via twitter DM. And yes, I do consider complaining about things to be wonderful sometimes bahahahaha.
Also more music posts! Because I also suck at music and only ever learn about good bands from twitter and such.
Either way, your new direction is going to be the SHIT and I can't wait!!
I know we talked about this a little bit before you made the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.... and you are all sorts of ballsy. I'm so glad your blog will still be around, because there are only a handful or two of blogs where I read EVERY SINGLE WORD that is written in reviews and yours, lady, is one of them. Lengthy reviews tend to make my eyes cross but YOURS are delightful and delicious.
ReplyDeleteBlogging would suck without you. The last year and a half-ish would blow without you. I'm so happy that we "met" early on in my blogging career because so much happiness that I experience on a daily basis comes from your ridiculous tweets or convos about music or Harry Potter or sexytimes in books or ANYTHING.
You are awesome and we will still talk about HP and books and music and my impending move to England VERY VERY OFTEN. I love the shit out of you forever & ever amen. Now... if we could only text. I'm sure they'll find a way to make this possible :)
Carla, you have definitely made a HUGE, wonderful impact on the book blogging world and it just wouldn't be the same without your sexytimes and fantastic reviews :)I'm so glad you'll still be around the tweets and reviewing occasionally because I NEED SOME CARLA IN MY LIFE!!!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want to cry, but good tears, I promise!!! Your blog is one of the first I found way back when... I fell in love with your original voice & in some ways it's help shaped who I am as a blogger. So thank you for that. You are one in a million & will be missed dearly. But like you said, this is not goodbye. I know our friendship has grown past book reviews & I am so very thankful for that. I can't wait to see what you have to show us b/c I KNOW it will be great things, GREAT THINGS!!!!!! Love you like woah xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI love you I love you I love you -- that's all there is to say because I know this wasn't an easy decision. Meeting you, my book twinsie, has been a blessing (especially our NYC adventure). Can't wait to see what you do next xo
ReplyDeleteI love you!
ReplyDeleteso... you'll be around, eh?
ReplyDeletethis is cool. i love this post and agree iwth all the commenters that your blog is TOTALLY one of a kind around here.
so thrilled for ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT WILL COME!!! (to you :))
Good luck with life!
ReplyDeleteRomix.
I'm glad it's not a complete goodbye Carla. We'll be around here (and on Twitter) when you want to chat about books :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you aren't quitting completely! Nothing makes me run out and buy a book faster than one of your reviews! And you are hilarious, and just all around awesome. So you would be greatly missed!
ReplyDeleteI keep avoiding commenting on this because it fills me with the sads.
ReplyDeleteBut you must know how awesome I think you are. And how much laughter and good times you've brought to the blogosphere.
We'll be here. We'll be here.
Ditto to what Angie said.
ReplyDeleteWhen you first posted this, I figured I'd give myself some time, y'know, to soak it all in. Maybe draft a couple of Oscar-winning sobfest speeches and test 'em out on my coworkers to see who cried the hardest. (Which would've ended up a very bad idea because they all have robot hearts.)
But I won't do any of that. So yay, no running mascara for you today, Carla! You've been a wonderful friend, pusher of books, and I can say with 100% confidence that your blog is one of my top five favorites. What boggles my brain is how each and every review had a deliberate dose of Carla-isms in it but could stand safely and confidently on its own. How you could consistently make me laugh review after review without recycling the same jokes over and over again is completely beyond me.
Your voice is truly distinct in the book blogging world. I'm sad to know that it's going to be a lot quieter without you posting here, but happy to know your writing voice will resound in other corners of the internet -- namely, Twitter. Thank you for not quitting Twitter. I'd have to hunt you down if you did. xoxo
